Econbook

Hi, I’m Kasole Sangwa Nyembo, an economist who has spent years helping people make sense of the world’s often confusing and chaotic economy. An economist studies how resources are produced, distributed, and consumed, analyzing data and trends to advise on economic decisions and policies.

Adults come to me with big questions—why banks fail, how inflation impacts their wallets, and what elections mean for their jobs. These are important topics that shape lives, and I enjoy explaining them in ways that feels approachable.

But the most fascinating and thought-provoking questions come from kids. They ask, “Why do some people earn more than others?” or “What makes money valuable?” and even, “Is school really worth it?” These universal questions deserve relatable answers that everyone can understand—not buried under complex graphs, equations, or dry lectures.

That’s why I created EconBook, a poetic, illustrated journey into the world of economics. It’s not a textbook; it’s a story-driven adventure that follows four kids living in the tropics as they experience key economic ideas firsthand. From inflation and recessions to saving and teamwork, these kids learn valuable lessons about how the world works—through rhyme and colorful illustrations that make learning fun.

EconBook is designed for kids aged 10 and up, but it’s crafted to engage parents and adults as well. It’s more than a book—it’s an educational journey that encourages parental involvement and fosters family collaboration. By learning together, families can spark meaningful conversations about how the world works, making economics not only fun and creative but also a shared experience that strengthens understanding across generations.

Why Poetry and Illustrations?

Poetry has a magical way of breaking down complex ideas into something simple and memorable. For centuries, people have used rhyme and rhythm to explain the mysteries of the world. Economics might seem like an odd fit, but poetry gives it a fresh and engaging spin, making it fun and approachable.

Illustrations add an extra layer of magic. They make abstract ideas tangible, bringing them to life in ways that stick with readers.
